The Costs of Dental Care

The dental rates that you find for dental plans sometimes look high, but when you compare them to the cost of dental work, especially in a city like Seattle, the rates for dental plans are a reasonable price to pay for offsetting dental bills.  If you have a family, your dental plan will be especially beneficial for easing your dental burdens.

If you purchase a Seattle dental discount plan that costs $175.00 per year for your family of four and each of you gets $300.00 worth of check-ups, cleanings, and X-rays in a year, your discount will probably be 25% of the cost.   At $75.00 per family member, your total discount on the $1200.00 worth of work will lower your cost to $900.00.  You would save $300.00 minus the premium of $175.00 making your total savings for the year come out to $125.00.

If anyone in your family needs further dental care after the cleaning, X-Rays, and check-up, your discount would save you even more money.  If your ten-year-old son needs two fillings, each will probably cost around $100.00.  Given a 25% discount on each of these, you would realize another $50 in savings for the year.

If more than one person in your family needs further dental services, your savings would be increased even more and your dental rates definitely would be well worth their cost.  Since dental services are not the only services in Seattle that are expensive, a break in your dental bill would mean more cash available to you for other necessities.

You can also get good dental rates on dental insurance plans that can save your family money.  The rates on insurance are a little bit higher than on dental discount plans, but they also cover more.  You can find a policy that costs $65.00 per month for your family of four that covers 80% of dental maintenance services and 60% of dental restorative services.

In the same scenario as above, you would pay about the same amount for cleanings, check-ups, and X-rays as for a discount plan, but for any additional work in the year, you will save 60% instead of the 25% that a discount plan would save you.  Two fillings for your ten-year-old will cost you only $80.00 out of pocket as opposed to $150.00 out of pocket.

If you feel you will not need any restorative work for your family for the year or if you only want to cover yourself with your dental plan, you might prefer to stick with a dental discount plan.  However, if you have family, chances are you would prefer the benefits of an insurance policy.
