The Value of Automobile Insurance
If you have an older vehicle and you do not particularly care if the car stays in good condition and you have a very limited budget, you can legally get by with having bodily injury liability insurance and personal damage liability insurance. This coverage costs less than full coverage but it will not cover any damages to your car or the theft of your car.
What liability insurance does cover is damage to someone else's vehicle and medical costs in the event of your being at fault in a collision. While having only liability can make your auto insurance rates less expensive, it cannot cover any damages to your own vehicle.
In Seattle, the traffic moves fast and accidents occur frequently so not covering your own vehicle for the likelihood of you causing damages to your own vehicle might be considered foolish. If you can afford Personal Injury Protection, Collision, Uninsured Motorist or Comprehension insurance it is wise for you to purchase them.
If you have included comprehension insurance in your coverage, you will make up the difference in your auto insurance rates rather quickly if someone steals your automobile. When the insurance company pays for your new car, you will not have to wait until you save enough money to get back on the road. If you rely on your vehicle for getting to and from work, this benefit also is more valuable than the cost of the insurance.
If you have included collision insurance in your coverage, you will also not have to wait without a car while the shop repairs your vehicle. The fact that most insurance companies provide rental cars while your car is in the shop is also a valuable benefit that you should weigh against the cost of your insurance.
If you want to get better coverage with better rates, you can improve your rates by not getting a moving violation for a year. If you are under the age of twenty-five, you can count on your rates getting lower once you turn twenty-five. If you join a Seattle car pool or drastically reduce the number of miles you drive, you can also reduce your insurance rates.
